Evaluating Practice: or what to ask yourself during a project?

My expectations for this project were mainly to do with myself; I really felt I let myself down in the last project, so really wanted to prove to myself that my project would be of a higher standard. As the project progressed I really felt that my enthusiasm and interested was reflect through my work. In addition, the workshop I have been doing for the project is print which I have been trying to do for the last workshops. I fell I have thrived and been able to experiment as much as possible which is one of the key aspects of this project. Sampling is, ‘A process used in statistical analysis in which a predetermined number of observations will be taken from a larger population’. With the amount of different techniques, we can do in print we have endless, different experimental samples which makes it easier to know exactly what direction we want to go in. Print has also improved other areas that you would not expect, because I really enjoy it I have improved my time management so I can get as much printing done as possible. In addition, it has encouraged me to go into the studio on our days off, which I admit I very rarely did on our previous project. When you have written a clear list of task to do for the day I find I can easily for fill them if I put my mind to it. An aspect I fell I am still struggling with is managing to make my sketchbook flow which I need to talk to my tutor about. I am not updating my blog enough, I have only made one post in the New Year, which is not good enough, I am going to set myself the task of writing something on it every week.

If i were to start the project all over again I would probably try to pick one of the titles that did not stand out to me because everyone naturally falls into their comfort zone. I don’t feel I have challenged myself as much as I could of but I really need a boost for my last project. So thought I would do something that I felt I knew I could do well in. However maybe in the second part of the project I could challenge myself further.

So much of this project is based on Sampling, anyone can sample to their hearts content, however the hard part of sampling is to find which sample can support the idea you’re going with or which one is the most aesthetically pleasing. It is like process of evolution, the stronger the sample is the more likely it is going to survive the experimentation process and move into the development area. I have only just found the sample I wanted to develop which is hand painting on to a screen and combing it with my original screen print. Your most promising sample can often be at the end.  Moreover, presentation of the samples is key aspect, I have seen in the foyer a lot of the second or third years’ work and their samples are on racks beautifully present, I feel this is how it should be and will try and for fill I.

flash mob dancing, a group of random people brought together via the internet who perform a bizarre act usually dance routine before disappearing started in America in 2003

there was a meditation flash mob in London in August at trafalgar square, it is amazing to think that for a few hours or so a great number of strangers come together to be a one.

I am trying to seek out a flash mob in 2012, it seems a great thing to be a part of.
